Dave Ryland and Councillor Penberthy visited the SWLA office as part of their bi-monthly check in and information gathering regarding the Private Rented Sector. Such an important, regular meeting – for us to have the opportunity to report what is really happening in the sector and to proactively input into upcoming changes.
Items discussed;
- Social housing investment in Plymouth City Centre
- The Renters Rights Bill (Landlord Portal – Local Authority’s duty to enforce – Professionalising the sector – Property Portal – Rent Repayment Orders will be more common – Rent Increase appeals process – Guarantor option ending – Section 8 increase in rent arrears mandatory threshold)
- Smaller landlords being squeezed financially – running out of money
- Increase in possession cases
We look forward to our next meeting. We will be informed and prepared for the Renters Rights Bill when it comes in, and will keep members up to date.
