Keynote Speaker: Martin Roberts

Martin Roberts

The name Martin Roberts has become synonymous with property – one of the UK’s most popular TV presenters and journalists, Martin’s niche is property, lifestyle and travel. For 40 years he has appeared on BBC TV and Radio, ITV, CNN and SKY TV. He has written and presented the hit BBC property auction show ‘Homes under the Hammer’, which is now in its 28th series. Martin’s book Teach Yourself Making Money from Property has cemented his experience of property development and short and long-term letting. He also presents property training workshops around the UK, and is a regular expert contributor to a wide range of publications, including lifestyle and property magazines, and on National TV, Radio and on-line.

Presentation 1: Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Guy Horsington, Deputy Director Private Rented Sector (Strategy, Tenancy and Redress)

Guy Horsington, MHCLG

Guy will be focusing on The Renters Rights Bill and what landlords can do now to prepare.

Guy is a Senior Civil Servant in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Over his career he has worked in the Foreign Office, the Cabinet Office, the Department for Business, and the Department for the Environment. For three years, he worked in Downing Street as Principal Private Secretary to Rt Hon Oliver Letwin, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for Government Policy. Throughout his career he has worked on reforming legislation from civil partnerships to post-EU agricultural payments. He now leads on the changes to the private rented sector as set out in the Renters’ Rights Bill. Guy lives in Somerset.

Presentation 2: John Hammond MDDC’s Development Management Manger

John Hammond

John will talk through planning requirements and permitted development.

John joined Mid Devon as Development Management Manger in 2024. Prior to then he had worked as a Development Services Manager in local authorities in Somerset and Dorset as well as spending time in the private sector as a planning consultant with a multi national consultancy as well as a south west SME practice.  

Demos: 

Mid Devon Housing will be running a demo of their Damp and Mould house. This is really interesting and will elevate your understanding of ventilation to the next level!
